Two important details were announced by the Government yesterday (January 7th): A date for the first Budget since the election, and details about the long-promised review into off-payroll rules (IR35).
Chancellor Sajid Javid has said that the Budget will take place on March 11th with a promise that billions of pounds will be invested “across the country.”
Mr Javid said: “In the Budget, we will be setting out how we are going to take advantage of all the huge opportunities that Brexit will bring.
“Also, how we are going to help hard-working people in particular – especially with the cost of living – and how we are going to level up across the entire country.”
More information was also released about the promised review into the off-payroll changes which come into force in April, commonly referred to as IR35.
The Government say that the review “will address any concerns from businesses and affected individuals about how they will be implemented [by the changes].”
Financial Secretary to the Treasury Jesse Norman said: “We recognise that concerns have been raised about the forthcoming reforms to the off-payroll working rules.
“The purpose of this consultation is to make sure that the implementation of these changes in April is as smooth as possible.”
The review will conclude mid-February, weeks before the changes come into force.
